BOWNING OROGENY

mountain-building event in eastern Australia in Late Silurian time (the Silurian Period began 430,000,000 years ago and ended 395,000,000 years ago). Of the several orogenic episodes to affect the Tasman Geosyncline, the Bowning orogeny was one of the severest. Plutonic intrusions occurred widely, and most of the eastern continental margin became emergenti.e., was uplifted above sea level.
