borough (district), administrative and historic county of Nottinghamshire, England. The borough covers the heavily industrialized western suburbs of the East Midlands city of Nottingham and the valley of the River Trent; its northern end includes part of the Nottinghamshire coalfield. The administrative centre is Beeston, southwest of Nottingham. Area 31 square miles (81 square km). Pop. (1998 est.) 109,700.
