BUGURUSLAN

city, Orenburg oblast (province), in the southern Ural Mountains of west-central Russia. Buguruslan lies along the Great Kinel River. Founded in 1748, it was chartered in 1781. It is an important centre of petroleum production in the VolgaUrals oil region. Other industries include sawmilling and the production of automotive parts. Pop. (1991 est.) 54,100.
