Afrikaans Bosveld natural region in southern Africa, at an elevation of about 2,5004,000 feet (8001,200 m). Centred in Northern province, South Africa, it extends into northern KwaZulu/Natal province, Swaziland, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, and Botswana. The bushveld (thornbush field) is characterized by treesacacia and baobab as well as thornbushesand tall grasses. It is moderately dry, with annual rainfall of about 1525 inches (380640 mm). Herding is the principal economic activity; large-scale cultivation is possible only in irrigated areas.
