formerly Teixeira Pinto, town, Cacheu region, northwestern Guinea-Bissau, West Africa. The town lies between the Rio Cacheu and the Rio Mansa in an area of coastal lowlands and is a major producer of oil-palm vegetable oil for export. It is also a market centre for rice and coconuts grown nearby. The town is connected by road to Bissau, the national capital. Pop. (1979) mun., 36,766.
