Meaning of CATANDUVA in English

city, in the highlands of north-central So Paulo estado (state) Brazil, on the So Domingos River at 1,630 feet (497 m) above sea level. Originally called Vila Adolfo, the settlement was given town status in 1909 and was made the seat of a municipality in 1917. Coffee is the principal crop of the region, which also raises cotton, corn (maize), rice, feijo (beans), and peanuts (groundnuts). Catanduva's industries process these products as well as hides and skins. The city is linked to the state capital, So Paulo, 210 miles (340 km) southeast, and to neighbouring urban centres by railroads, highways, and air. Pop. (1980 prelim.) 64,813.
