CHHATAK

town, northeastern Bangladesh, on the left bank of the Surma River. The town rose to prominence when a natural gas field was discovered nearby in 1959. Chhatak has a large cement factory powered by natural gas; the town also exports limes, oranges, potatoes, and tea. Pop. (1974) 13,248.
