CHRZANW

city, Katowice wojewdztwo (province), south-central Poland. Chrzanw forms part of the highly developed Upper Silesian industrial and mining area in the centre of the province. Chrzanw is located 15 miles (25 km) southeast of Katowice in the Jaworzno-Chrzanw district, an area of forests and rye and potato fields. The city is one of Poland's major zinc-producing centres. Other economic activities include coal mining, food processing, and the production of building materials and electrical machinery. It is the site of one of the province's regional museums. Pop. (1991 est.) 42,700.
