COLUMBIAD

Meaning of COLUMBIAD in English

any of certain epics recounting the European settlement and growth of the United States. It may have been derived from La Colombiade, ou la foi porte au nouveau monde, a poem by the French author Marie-Anne Fiquet de Boccage. A relatively well-known example is The Columbiad (1807; an extensive revision of The Vision of Columbus, 1787) by Joel Barlow.
