Echeveria, a succulent with thick, fleshy leaves and epicuticular waxes the stonecrop or orpine family of about 30 genera of perennial herbs or low shrubs, in the order Rosales, native to warm, dry regions of the world. Many species are grown as pot plants or cultivated in rock gardens and borders. They have thick leaves and red, yellow, or white flower clusters. Sedum (stonecrop), Sempervivum (houseleek), Kalancho, Monanthes, Umbilicus (pennywort), Bryophyllum, Echeveria (see photograph), Crassula, and Cotyledon are well-known members of the family.
