Meaning of DAITO in English

city, Osaka fu (urban prefecture), Honshu, Japan, on the eastern border of Osaka city. Daito extends eastward from the Ikoma Mountains to the Osaka plain on land reclaimed from the lowlands during the 17th and 18th centuries. It was a farming community until the opening of a railway connection to Osaka and the subsequent establishment of textile plants. After World War II factories producing metal products and electrical appliances were built at the foot of the mountains, and Daito became an industrial city. It also serves as a residential suburb of the OsakaKobe Metropolitan Area. Pop. (1987 est.) 124,382.
