Meaning of DALBY in English

town, southeastern Queensland, Australia. It lies along Myall Creek near the Condamine River. Founded as Myall Creek Station in 1841, it was renamed for Dalby, on the Isle of Man, in the British Isles. It became a town in 1854. Dalby is the commercial centre for the northern Darling Downs, the state's most productive wheat region. Other local products include timber, linseed, livestock, and dairy foods. Dalby has foundries, engineering works, flour mills and sawmills, agricultural machinery and butter factories, and a livestock market. It is the headquarters for the British and Australian Breeds Society (sheep) and holds an important annual stock show. Pop. (1986) 8,338.
