municipal zoological garden in Marsalis Park, Dallas, Texas, U.S. It is noted for its fine reptile collection, which includes the world's largest holdings of rattlesnakes (more than 50 species). Opened in 1904, the zoo houses about 1,700 specimens of nearly 500 species on its 20-hectare (50-acre) site. Among these specimens is the largest flamingo flock in North America. Another interesting feature of the Dallas Zoo is its large desert-ecology display, consisting of two dozen species of lizards in an outdoor enclosure amid desert vegetation.
