Meaning of DAMOH in English

town, central Madhya Pradesh state, central India. An agricultural trade centre, it has industries that include oilseed milling, handloom weaving and dyeing, and the manufacture of bell-metal vessels and pottery. The town has a weekly cattle market. Damoh rose to importance in the 14th century when occupied by the Muslims and was the seat of Maratha governors. It was constituted a municipality in 1867 and has a hospital and three colleges affiliated with the University of Saugar. Pop. (1981) town, 75,573; metropolitan area, 76,758.
