ENOBARBUS

in full Domitius Enobarbus, a Roman soldier and trusted friend of Mark Antony in Shakespeare's Antony and Cleopatra. Enobarbus is able to foresee the disastrous results of the relationship between Antony and Cleopatra, and after the defeat at Actium, he deserts Antony to join Octavius. When Antony later sends him all his treasure, Enobarbus is overcome by remorse and kills himself for having betrayed Antony.
