Mandarin orange orchards grace the mountain slopes behind Gamagori, which also serves as a seaside resort. There are hot-spring spas nearby. The city is connected by bridge to offshore Take-shima (Take Island), which has a Shinto shrine dedicated to the goddess of beauty. Pop. (1980) 85,294.
