city, west-central Uttar Pradesh state, northern India. It lies south of Aligarh city, with which it is connected by road and rail. It is a trade centre for agricultural products, and its industry includes cotton and oilseed milling and light manufacturing. Several colleges of Agra University are located there. The ruins of a 19th-century fort lie to the southwest. Pop. (1991 prelim.) 113,653.
