HELMOND

gemeente (commune), Noord-Brabant provincie, southeastern Netherlands. It lies along the Aa River and the Zuid-Willems Canal east of Eindhoven. It is a modern industrial town with textile factories, iron foundries, and engineering plants. Helmond's town hall is in a castle (1402), and its Music Hall, housed in a former church, has a collection of barrel organs. There are several wildlife preserves and other castles in the vicinity. Pop. (1987 est.) 63,909.
