When founded as a suburb of the capital in 1923, Huddinge had an area of 0.5 square mile (1.4 square km) and a population of 511. In 1947 the residential communities of Fullersta, Hrningsns, Stuvsta, Snttringe, and Segeltorp merged with Huddinge. The city's present area is about 50 square miles (130 square km). Wooded and rolling, it has a modern town hall (194649) and residences for many Stockholm commuters. Hosiery knitting and the manufacture of metal products and concrete are leading industries. Pop. (1990 est.) mun., 73,107.
