Settled by Daniel Freeman in 1873, it was laid out by the Centinela-Inglewood Land Company in 1887 and became a poultry-raising centre. It developed with the Los Angeles metropolitan area and is the site of the Hollywood Park racetrack. La Casa de la Centinela Adobe (built in 1836) is a historical landmark. Los Angeles International Airport is adjacent (southwest). Inc. city, 1908. Pop. (1990) 109,602; (1994 est.) 110,085.
