Meaning of JABOATO in English

city, eastern Pernambuco estado (state), northeastern Brazil, on the Jaboato River, 148 feet (45 m) above sea level and just west of Recife, the state capital. The site of two battles in the 17th-century war of the Portuguese against the Dutch, Jaboato was elevated to city status in 1884. It is now the commercial centre of an agricultural region in which cotton, sugarcane, tobacco, and rice are cultivated. Pop. (1980 prelim.) 67,120.
