lake in southwestern Alaska, U.S., south of Mount Becharof on the Alaska Peninsula. It is about 0.5 miles (0.8 km) long. The village of Kanatak, at the head of Portage Bay west of Kanatak Creek, was a centre of oil-drilling activity in the 1930s but was practically abandoned when the drilling ended in the 1950s. The area is still known for fishing and trapping.
