in full Keski-suomen Lni, Swedish Mellersta Finlands Ln, lni (province), south-central Finland. Its area encompasses much of the Pijnne and Keitele lake systems. The administrative capital is Jyvskyl. Keski-Suomi generally consists of flat farming and timber lands broken up by many lakes. Local industry is based on farming and timber products, and most of the towns serve as lumber-processing centres. The larger towns include Jms in the southwest and nekoski and Suolahti in the east. Area 7,486 square miles (19,388 square km). Pop. (1995 est.) 257,716.
