KOLOMYYA

also spelled Kolomyia, or Kolomyja, city, Ivano-Frankovsk oblast (province), western Ukraine, on the Prut River. Documents first mention the city in 1240. It is now a trading centre for the surrounding area, and it has various light industries. Agricultural machinery is also manufactured, and there are paper and brewing concerns. Pop. (1991 est.) 66,200.
