KOPAVOGUR

town, southwestern Iceland, situated on the southeastern shore of Faxa Bay, just to the south of Reykjavk, the nation's capital. A modern fast-growing residential suburb of the capital, Kpavogur was, by the early 1970s, one of Iceland's largest towns. On a tiny peninsula in the bay west of the town is Bessastadhir, residence of the nation's president. Pop. (1990 est.) 16,186.
