KRASNOARMIYSK

Russian Krasnoarmeysk, also spelled Krasnoarmeisk, or Krasnoarmejsk, formerly (until 1938) Grishino, city, Donetsk oblast (province), eastern Ukraine. It is an old coal-mining centre of the Donets Basin coalfield, and mining began there in 1884. Krasnoarmiysk also has a railway-servicing industry and a construction-materials industry. It is the centre of a significant agricultural area. Pop. (1994 est.) 75,000.
