born March 30, 1886, Serpukhov, Russia died May 13, 1939, Warsaw Polish logician and mathematician who was a co-founder and leading representative of the Warsaw school of logic. Additional reading Z.A. Jordan, Philosophy and Ideology: The Development of Philosophy and Marxism-Leninism in Poland Since the Second World War (1963), a comprehensive background history of the Warsaw school, includes much information about Lesniewski and his associates and a full bibliography. Tadeusz Kotarbinski, Gnosiology: The Scientific Approach to the Theory of Knowledge (1966), a Polish classic, for more than two decades provided the only elementary account of Lesniewski's work and influence and is still of value.
