Meaning of LINS in English

city, west-central So Paulo estado (state), Brazil. It is located in the highlands at 1,299 feet (396 m) above sea level, south of the Tiet River. Formerly known as Santo Antnio do Campestre and as Albuquerque Lins, the settlement was given town status in 1913 and was made the seat of a municipality in 1919. Coffee is the principal crop for the region, which also produces rice, corn (maize), peanuts (groundnuts), cassava, feijo (beans), and cotton. Industrial products include liquor, processed foods, wax, dyes, ceramics, and shoes. Lins also has an airfield. Pop. (1991 prelim.) mun., 59,221.
