LUISETTI, HANK

born June 16, 1916, San Francisco byname of Angelo Enrico Luisetti American collegiate basketball player who introduced the one-handed shot. He also combined all skills on both offense and defense, including dribbling and passing behind his back. Luisetti, at 6 ft 2 1/2 in., played basketball at Galileo High School (San Francisco, 193134) and at Stanford University (Palo Alto, Calif.; 193538). He was the first collegiate player to score 50 points in a gamehis career total points were 1,596 in four years. His team won three Pacific Conference championships and popularized the fast-break offense and a combination of man-to-man and zone defense. He served in the Navy in World War II and, afterward, played and coached amateur basketball into the early 1950s. He later became a travel company executive. He was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1959.
