It is the main town of the Dindings coastal district and the best sheltered deepwater port in Malaysia. A Royal Malaysian Navy facility with dry-dock equipment is located there. Nearby Pangkor Island and its resort hotels are connected by ferry with Lumut. Pop. (1980) 2,988.
