Meaning of LUNEVILLE in English

town, in the Meurthe-et-Moselle dpartement, Lorraine rgion, eastern France, east-southeast of Nancy, at the confluence of the Vezouze and Meurthe rivers. Incorporated in the duchy of Lorraine in the 15th century, it was joined to France in 1766. The Treaty of Lunville between France and Austria was signed there in 1801. The 18th-century planned town has a fine chteau, inspired by Versailles, and a church built in a Rococo style. Main industries include the production of china, textiles, and railway equipment. Pop. (1990) 22,393.
