city, Perm oblast (province), Russia. It lies along the Lysva River in the mid-Urals. First recorded in the mid-17th century, the settlement acquired an iron-smelting factory as an economic base in 1785 and became a town in 1926. Its steel industry was modernized after the October Revolution (1917), and the city is a metallurgical centre producing tinplate and quality steels. Pop. (1993 est.) 78,300.
