MAGNOLIOPHYTA

Meaning of MAGNOLIOPHYTA in English

also called Anthophyta, or Angiospermae the division of the angiosperms, or flowering plants, which constitute the greatest number of species and occupy the widest range of habitats among all plant groups. Members range in size from tiny duckweeds to giant redwoods. The division contains two classes: Magnoliopsida (dicotyledons) and Liliopsida (monocotyledons). While the formal, Latinized names tend to vary with authorities, the common English terms remain very useful, being widely known and generally accepted. See angiosperm.
