town, Windsor and Maidenhead unitary authority, historic county of Berkshire, England, on the River Thames. A stone bridge (177277) carries the London-Bath road across the river, and the Brunel railway bridge (183738) has two of the widest brick spans in the world. Maidenhead Thicket and Pinkneys Green together cover 535 acres (217 hectares) of National Trust land. Along with their boating facilities and proximity to the metropolis of London, the parklands have contributed to making Maidenhead a popular residential area and summer resort. Pop. (1991) 59,605.
