also spelled Masjid-i Sulaiman, town, southwestern Iran. Oil was discovered at Masjed Soleyman in 1908, and the town early became one of Iran's leading oil centres. Pipelines, built in 190910, link the town with Abadan, 125 miles (200 km) southwest. Pop. (1986) 104,787.
