town, Vstra Gtaland ln (county), southwestern Sweden, a southeastern suburb of Gteborg. It developed as an industrial area on the Mlndal River. In 1911 it became a municipality and in 1922 a town. Its once important flour-milling industry has been replaced largely by the manufacture of textiles, paper, and fats. The principal industry, however, is metalworking. Pop. (1990) mun., 52,033; (1996 est.) mun., 54,492.
