officially Montreuil-Sous-Bois town, Seine-Saint-Denis dpartement, Paris rgion, an eastern industrial suburb of Paris, situated on a plateau 400 feet (120 m) high. Located 1 mile (1.6 km) from the city limits of the capital, it is connected to Paris by the Mtro (subway). A centre for processing hides and skins, Montreuil also manufactures cookies (biscuits), textiles, and porcelain and produces chemicals for tanning. Peach trees, for which the locality was once famous, still grow there. In the centre of the old town, the Church of Saint-Pierre-Saint-Paul has a 12th-century choir. A wooded park on the edge of the plateau contains a museum of history. Pop. (1990) 95,038.
