comet named after Daniel Walter Morehouse, a U.S. astronomer. It was observed in 1908 and was remarkable for variations in the form and structure of its tail. This on several occasions appeared to break into fragments and to be completely separated from the head. Also, its tail became visible at twice the Earth's distance from the Sun (2 astronomical units), whereas most comets start to produce a visible tail only at about 1.5 astronomical units from the Sun.
