MORTIMER, EDMUND

Earl Of March, a long-time supporter of the king who is captured by Owen Glendower and then switches parties to ally himself with the rebels in Shakespeare's Henry IV, Part 1. As the brother of Hotspur's wife and subsequently the husband of Glendower's daughter, Mortimer is the catalyst for the alliance between the rebellious Percy family and the Welsh Insurrection.
