MUZAFFARNAGAR

city, northwestern Uttar Pradesh state, northern India, north-northeast of Delhi, with which it is connected by road and rail. Muzaffarnagar was founded about 1633 by Khan-e Jahan, who named it after his father, Muzaffar Khan. An agricultural marketplace, it also has some light industry. Several colleges are located in the city. Pop. (1991 prelim.) 240,057.
