Bezirk (district) in the southern part of the city of Berlin, Germany. Medieval village churches still mark the centres of the four old villagesRixdorf, Britz, Buckow, and Rudowaround which the district grew. Large housing estates were built, and Neuklln became the most populous district in the city. While it is a shopping and entertainment centre, meat-packing, chemical, pharmaceutical, motor-vehicle, and other plants also give the district a strong industrial base.
