Meaning of OLHAO in English

town, port, and concelho (township), Faro distrito (district), southern Portugal. It lies at the head of the Barra Nova (a shipping channel landward of sandbars fringing the coast), just east of Faro town. Olho was one of the first Portuguese towns to enter the Peninsular War (180814). Now primarily a fishing port with canning factories, it is also a popular resort frequented by painters. Olho is often called the Cubist Town because of its white, cube-shaped, flat-roofed houses. Pop. (1981) town, 19,817; concelho, 34,224.
