Meaning of OLIVOS in English

cabecera (county seat) of Vicente Lpez partido (county), Gran (Greater) Buenos Aires, Arg., directly north of the city of Buenos Aires, in Buenos Aires provincia, on the Ro de la Plata estuary. During the 16th and early 17th centuries, the site of present-day Olivos was part of a region called Costa de Monte Grande and, after 1730, the Pago (country district) de Monte Grande. In 1706 the area became part of the parish of San Isidro Labrador. It was incorporated within the partido of San Isidro in 1784. The city of Olivos was founded in 1878. In 1905, San Isidro partido was divided, and Olivos became part of the partido of Vicente Lpez. Olivos, primarily a residential and seaside resort area, experienced its most rapid population growth in the 1940s and 1950s. There are dock facilities for small trading vessels and it has a large foreign population. The presidential residence is in Olivos. It is served by the Bartolome Mitre Railway and the national highway system.
