ORNSKOLDSVIK

city in the ln (county) of Vsternorrland, northern Sweden, on the Gulf of Bothnia. It was founded in 1842. In 1892 the railroad arrived, and the next year rnskldsvik received city status. Wood pulp is the major industrial product and the chief export through the city's harbour. Metalworking and leatherworking are also significant. The city has an airfield and ferry service to Vaasa, Fin. rnskldsvik also has a museum of local art, history, and ethnography. Pop. (1995 est.) mun., 58,663.
