Meaning of PACATUS DREPANIUS, LATINIUS in English

flourished AD 390 Latinius also spelled Latinus Gallo-Roman orator and poet, the author of an extant panegyric addressed to Theodosius I at Rome in 389 after the defeat of the usurper Maximus. He was a friend of Symmachus, the champion of paganism, and of the Christian poet Ausonius. It is uncertain whether Pacatus was pagan or Christian; in his speech he denounced Maximus' persecution of the Priscillianist heretics. In 390 Pacatus received the proconsulship of Africa and later held other high offices.
