PHENBENZAMINE

also called dimethylaminoethylbenzanilide the first specific antihistaminic drug to be used therapeutically to counteract the histamine reaction, as it occurs in allergies. Antergan was the trade name for the drug. Introduced in France in 1942, phenbenzamine has been replaced by newer, more effective, and less toxic drugs.
