ROSALINE

a lady attending on the Princess of France in Shakespeare's Love's Labour's Lost. A more fully realized character than Maria and Katharine, the dark Rosaline is sharp-tongued and every bit the intellectual equal of the ironic Berowne. Many scholars have viewed Rosaline as a precursor to Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing.
