ROVENKY

Russian Rovenki, city, Luhansk oblast (province), southeastern Ukraine. Rovenky is 37 miles (60 km) south of the city of Luhansk on the Debaltseve-Likhovsky rail line. It was incorporated as a city in 1934. Rovenky is located in a coal-mining area and has an ore-enrichment plant. Food processing, woodworking, and stone products manufacturing are other important industries. The city has a mining tekhnikum (semiprofessional training school) and a museum of local history. Pop. (1991 est.) 59,000.
