SALTOPOSUCHUS

Meaning of SALTOPOSUCHUS in English

genus of extinct advanced thecodonts, the reptilian group that gave rise to the dinosaurs, flying reptiles, and birds. Saltoposuchus, a Late Triassic biped (the Triassic Period lasted from 245 to 208 million years ago), was lightly built and about 1.1 m (3 3/4 feet) long. The skeletal remains of Saltoposuchus reveal that its hind limbs were much more developed than the forelimbs. The long tail served as a counterbalance for the body. Its skull was relatively large and had numerous openings and many pointed, sharp teeth.
