The narrow strip of land includes the San Blas (formerly Mulatas) Archipelago. Agriculturechiefly coconuts, yams, and plantainsand fishing are the principal economic activities in San Blas. The population consists largely of Kuna Indians. Transportation in the region is almost entirely by water or by air.
